A British teenager said he was “very, very lucky” to live after being dragged under water with a 10-foot crocodile and almost lost his feet. Amelie Osborn-Smith, 18, was white water rafting on the Zambezi River in Zambia when he was attacked on Tuesday, BBC reported. Teenagers only survived thanks to the courage of his friends, who dived underwater and punched crocodiles until they released him.
Amelie’s father, Brent Osborn-Smith, said that the Nile crocodile tried to drag his daughter “down into the roll of death characteristic to subdue his prey.”
“Amelie struggled back with great courage and refused to be subdued or taken below,” he said.
“Because of the rapid thoughts and intervention of everything on the boat, the reptile attack was disgusted and Amelie was then taken quickly back to the ship,” added Mr. Osborn-Smith.
Amelie suffered several injuries in the attack but fortunately managed to escape. The lower legs have been “persecuted”, his right leg was injured and the hip was dislocated.
Teens were evacuated to the hospital after being given first aid in place. A video released by Medland Hospital in Zambia, where he was being treated, showing him talking to Dr. Mohamed El Sahili.
“You don’t really think in that situation,” Amelie Osborn-Smith told the doctor.
“People say that you see your life flash before your eyes, but you don’t, you just think: ‘How do I get out of this situation?’
“Your brain just goes into Overdrive. I’m very lucky.”
MS Osborn-Smith added that he “received completely” that he would lose his legs in the attack, but the medical officer was able to save him.
Teenagers, from Hampshire, hopes to immediately return home to be reunited with his family.
