Hundreds of thousands of people were locked in the small town of China on Tuesday after only one Covid-19 case was detected, because the virus strategy without a tight tolerance in Beijing did not show signs of subside.
China is the last big economy that is fixed on the zero-covid policy, destroying new outbreaks with the locking snap, forced quarantine and heavy sidewalks despite public fatigue and economic damage.
Authorities in several regions have imposed a series of restrictions when they struggle to reduce the new flare driven by the Omicron variant that spreads quickly.
After reporting a new domestic infection, the Wugang Steel Making Center in Henan Province announced on Monday that they would implement three days of “closed control” in response to “disease prevention needs”, according to official notification.
None of the 320,000 people in the city were allowed to set foot outside their homes until mid -Thursday, the notification said, adding that basic needs would be sent by local authorities.
Residents are not allowed to use their cars without permission and must get official authorization to travel in a “closed loop” condition if an emergency occurs, the notification said.
This city is home to one of the largest steel companies in China, Wuyang Iron & Steel Co., which exports to the United States, Japan and other major western economies, according to Bloomberg.

In East Anhui Province, where the authorities last week put 1.7 million people into locking, residents of one region were scheduled to undergo the 15th mass testing round on Tuesday, according to official notification.
