Helsinki: Finland’s Prime Minister was under continuous criticism on Tuesday after being disclosed that he remained dancing until early on weekends despite knowing that he had been exposed to Covid-19.
Sanna Marin, 36, apologized on Monday after the gossip magazine published photos of her attending the Helsinki nightclub on Saturday night to almost four in the morning, for hours after Pekka Haavisto’s foreign minister was tested positive for Coronavirus.
“My husband and I … have come out to eat, have shopped in the city, see friends and also spend time [enjoy] night and nightlife,” said the social leader of the Democrats on Facebook.
He added that he was told by an official that the Coronavirus guidelines did not require him to isolate, even though they were related to infected people.
“I should have used a better assessment and re-examined the guidelines given to me. I’m very sorry for not understanding that I need to do that,” Marin wrote.
A poll assigned by MTV3 TV channels found that two-thirds of respondents thought that marin night out was “serious error”.
Opposition parties also slam marine because they have the potential to solve official Covid guidelines and to lose the next text message to warn it to isolate.
Minister of Finance Annika Sayaikko from the central party, the coalition partner in power, stopped criticizing Marin directly.
However, Sagarko told the ‘Helsingin Sanomat’ newspaper that he was “glad I was at home” when he received a text message to isolate, adding that he had canceled his plan for the next day.
Finland has sustained several lowest European incidents of viruses throughout the pandemic, recorded more than 196,000 cases and 1,384 deaths in 5.5 million countries.
However, infection is now at all time height, with 308 new cases per 100,000 populations in the past two weeks. The country also recorded eight cases of new ‘omicron’ variants.
On Monday, Seiska magazine reported that Marin was seen at the nightclub of the butcher in Helsinki, dancing with friends to nearly four.
Marin, who became the youngest prime minister in the world when appointed in 2019, has previously been a target for criticism for official parties in the official residence and social media post where he poses with friends or appears to promote fashion accessories.
In October, he responded to criticism with Instagram posts that quoted the Finnish pop song which said: “Hey boom-boom-boomer, put ice in your topme and cool.”
“I’m a representative of the younger generation,” he said later to Broadcasters Ylee. “And yes, it’s reflected in the way I do my work and how I live,” said Marin.
