New Delhi: It is that season when legislative issues assume a lower priority in the northeastern slope territory of Meghalaya. Pioneers across partisan loyalties meet up in the soul of Christmas, saving drawn out contrasts and delighting in merriments.
This year was the same. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma joined the state’s Leader of Opposition and previous Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh and senior MLA Charles Pyngrope in singing Christmas tunes and spreading merry cheer. The pioneers were joined by Santa Claus as they scored to Feliz Navidad.
A video of the outdoors occasion – a pre-Christmas festivity with state clergymen and MLAs – showed the group moving and applauding as the state chiefs sang.
“Was enchanted to join Hon’ble Speaker, Hon’ble Leader of Opposition and Hon’ble MLA in singing the #Christmas song at the Pre-Christmas Celebration joined by our associates. #Meghalaya sends its Christmas endowments to every one of you,” Conrad Sangma composed as he shared the video on Twitter.
Mr Sangma is known to have an affinity for music and is regularly spotted playing his electric guitar. Last year, he had transferred a video where he easily played Iron Maiden’s Wasted Years. The inscription read, “Following a chaotic 3-day Assembly meeting, loosening up with some Iron Maiden stuff. It’s been an extended period of time I haven’t played, so I surmise a couple mistakes…”
Meghalaya was as of late hit by a political overthrow that saw previous Chief Minister Mukul Sangma leave the Congress with 11 MLAs and join Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress. In practically no time, the Congress, in an uncommon move, offered issue-based help to the state’s BJP-Conrad Sangma union. The Trinamool rushed to get down on Congress’ turn, naming it a “incredible selling out to the resistance”.
